SAN DIEGO : Son of Navy Official Punished for Thefts
WASHINGTON — The sailor son of H. Lawrence Garrett III, the secretary of the Navy, was punished earlier this year for his involvement in credit card thefts in San Diego last year, the Navy said Wednesday.
Seaman H.L. Garrett IV was reduced in rank to seaman apprentice, received 30 days of restriction, 30 days of extra duty, and had to forfeit the equivalent of one month’s pay, according to a statement released by the Bureau of Naval Personnel.
The punishment was handed out at an April 28 disciplinary procedure known as a captain’s mast by the commanding officer responsible for enlisted sailors, Cmdr. Michael J. Landers of the Bureau of Personnel.
A spokesman for the elder Garrett said the secretary would have no comment.
