Texas Lottery Takes Off on First Day of Sales

AUSTIN, Tex. — Texans plunged into the state’s new lottery Friday, risking more than $1 million an hour on instant win tickets that offer a chance to win up to $10,000.
Texas became the 35th state with a lottery. Lotteries were banned by the Texas Constitution for 147 years, but voters overwhelmingly approved a lottery amendment in November.
