Obituaries : N. Leonard Alderson; Grain Company Executive
N. Leonard Alderson, 62, chairman of Cargill International S.A., a subsidiary of Minnesota-based Cargill Inc. and one of the world’s biggest grain purveyors. The subsidiary oversees commodity trading outside North America. Alderson headed the subsidiary since 1985, and also supervised Cargill business in the former Soviet Union, Eastern Europe, the Middle East and parts of Africa. Alderson was born in Reading, England, and graduated from Cambridge University in 1953. He joined Cargill later that year as a trainee in the grain division of Cargill Inc. in Minneapolis-St. Paul. On May 3 at his home in Geneva of a heart attack.
