Community Activist Named to Council
The City Council this week appointed community activist David Lim to fill the unexpired term of Councilman Orbrey L. Duke.
Lim, 39, is a Neighborhood Watch block captain and director of publications for the La Palma Chamber of Commerce. He is also a member of the city’s Cultural and Beautification Committee, which has sponsored the planting of 100 donated trees this year as well as a weeklong cultural arts affair.
“I thought this (appointment) would be another step in promoting the city,” Lim said. “This is a small enough community where one person can really make a contribution.”
Duke, 61, former police chief in both La Palma and Cypress, suffered two strokes in February and has not been able to attend to council business, said City Manager Pamela Gibson. Lim has lived in La Palma since 1981. He is a self-employed computer systems and publishing consultant.
