PREP BASEBALL ROUNDUP : Chacon Brothers Help Fullerton Top La Habra
Daniel Chacon went five for five with three runs batted in to help Fullerton to a 15-8 victory over La Habra in a Freeway League baseball game Friday at Fullerton. Chacon’s brother, David, had three hits, including two doubles, and drove in a run for Fullerton.
Fullerton scored six runs in the fifth and four in the sixth to rally from an 8-5 deficit. Garrett Underwood had a home run, a double and four RBIs for host Fullerton (14-6, 9-2). La Habra is 10-8, 4-7.
In other Freeway League games:
Buena Park 7, Sonora 3--Richard Cabral had three hits and Scott Kimball struck out seven and pitched an eight-hitter for host Buena Park (9-8, 6-4).
Sunny Hills 5, Troy 3--Junior Brian Volpp hit a two-run homer and a double for Sunny Hills (11-11, 6-5). Winning pitcher Eric Smith (1-0) and Brian Blwispelaere, who went three for four, each doubled. Troy is 7-11 and 5-5.
In the Arrowhead League:
Calvary Chapel 20, Sherman Indian 2 (5, mercy rule)--Joe Jones had three hits and drove in five runs and Sabe Younger had three hits and three RBIs for visiting Calvary Chapel (9-4, 4-2). Each homered.
In the Garden Grove League:
Los Amigos 6, Bolsa Grande 4--Joe Portillo had a two-run home run in the first inning, and Mark Dillon had a two-run double and Miguel Hernandez had a two-run home run in the fourth for host Los Amigos (3-12, 3-6). John Baughman had 10 strikeouts for Bolsa Grande. He also had two hits and Paul Gill had a two-run home run for Bolsa Grande (4-16, 1-9).
La Quinta 4, Pacifica 2--Kenny Granger, Chad Leckie and Mike Grace each drove in a run in La Quinta’s three-run sixth inning. The Aztecs (13-7-1, 6-4) had four of their five hits in the inning. Pacifica is 12-10 and 5-5.
Santiago 4, Garden Grove 2--Winning pitcher Louis Perez (2-3) was two for three and reliever Enele Scanlan was three for three and pitched the seventh inning to earn his seventh save for Santiago (12-9, 6-4). Garden Grove is 11-7 and 7-3.
In the Orange League:
Brea-Olinda 7, Savanna 1--Shortstop Ryan Ott and designated hitter Jason Luevanos each doubled twice for host Brea-Olinda (15-5-1, 10-1). Andy Smith (5-2) allowed four hits for the Wildcats.
Valencia 12, Magnolia 3--Valencia designated hitter Bill Eubanks had three hits, including a double and a triple, and four RBIs at Magnolia. Ryan Roskelly and Eric Ensman each had two hits for Valencia (14-6, 9-2).
Anaheim 12, Western 7--After four consecutive walks with two outs in the fourth inning, designated-hitter Corey Dean-Yeager hit his fourth home run of the season. Dean-Yeager drove in six runs. Angel Rivera (6-2) was the winning pitcher for the Colonists (12-10, 6-5).
In the Pacific Coast League:
Laguna Hills 6, Estancia 1--Jason Pierson hit a two-run home run in the first inning for Laguna Hills (12-8, 6-3). Jamie Miller was the winning pitcher. Laguna Hills is 12-8, 6-3.
Trabuco Hills 7, Laguna Beach 5--Gibson Gomez drove in two runs with a single in the top of the seventh to break a 5-5 tie for the Mustangs (12-8, 9-2). Carey Smith allowed four hits and struck out seven to pick up his eighth victory without a loss this season. Tom Ravensberg hit a three-run home run in the bottom of the sixth to tie the score for the Artists (5-6 in league).
Costa Mesa 6, Century 5--Matt Jaglowski had an RBI in the seventh inning to win the game for host Costa Mesa (6-14, 2-9). Luis Vasquez had a home run and two RBIs.
In the Sea View League:
Corona del Mar 12, Woodbridge 2--Mike Susson hit a grand slam in the first inning and Todd Kehrli had three hits and two RBIs for host Corona del Mar. C.W. Ramsay (3-2) struck out 10 and allowed three hits for the Sea Kings (11-8, 5-6). Kehrli and Tim DeCinces hit consecutive home runs in the second inning.
