On Second Thought, Maybe It Would Work
The following rule change ought to eliminate the needless and dangerous ploy of pitchers throwing at batters. If a batter is hit by a pitch, the batter is awarded second base. This would eliminate intentional headhunters gaining an upper hand, because no pitcher wants a runner in scoring position. Also, the umpire may have the discretion of awarding second base for what seems to be an intentional beanball.
Maybe, with this rule change, bench-clearing brawls will go back to where they belong--in hockey.
