Reader’s Digest Assn. Inc. said its third-quarter profit rose 11.6% on a 12.2% revenue increase. The giant publisher and direct mail marketer’s revenue from sales of books and home entertainment products soared and was up modestly at its flagship magazine, but slipped at its five special interest magazines.
Reader’s Digest said it earned $90.6 million, or 75 cents a share, in the three months ended March 31 compared to $81.2 million, or 68 cents a share, a year earlier. Revenue for the quarter rose to $718.6 million from $640.6 million a year earlier.
