PREP ROUNDUP : El Dorado Supports DowDell’s Four-Hitter

During El Dorado’s 6-2 Empire League victory over Katella Thursday at Boysen Park, the Hawks showed there is more to their baseball team than Tyson DowDell.

Numerous scouts were in attendance and watched DowDell pitch a four-hitter without allowing an earned run. Katella didn’t let DowDell swing the bat much, walking him three times.

So the offense was left to El Dorado’s Sean Holcomb and John Street, who drove in two runs each.

Street went three for four with a double, triple and a run scored.

He started El Dorado’s attack in the first inning with a triple off of losing pitcher Kyle Evans.

Evans pitched cautiously to the next hitter, DowDell, walking him on five pitches. Holcomb followed with a two-run double over Katella center fielder Jesse Santivanez’s head.

With a 2-0 lead, DowDell started the bottom of the first by allowing singles to leadoff hitter Santivanez and Ronny Gallego.

But DowDell got out of the inning with two groundouts, including a disputed double play to end the inning.

Umpires awarded El Dorado a double play after Evans was called for interference at second base while trying to upend El Dorado’s Street.

El Dorado (9-4, 5-0 in league) added single runs in the second, third, fourth and sixth innings.

DowDell kept the Knights in check by striking out three but inducing 11 groundouts.

Katella scored its run in the sixth, when Evans scored on an El Dorado error after tripling into the right-field corner.

“Our shortstop, Chris Remala, made some outstanding plays today,” El Dorado Coach Steve Gulotti said.

Although Remala had one error, he also had seven assists and two hits.
