No Show: Universal Pictures “with great reluctance” pulled the plug Thursday on its half-price ticket experiment. Under the plan, announced Feb. 12, exhibitors offered half off on adult tickets to Universal films on Tuesdays to attract folks to the box office. While the proposal was embraced by some movie circuits, it was opposed by Universal’s rival studios. Universal Chairman Tom Pollock said the plan “simply couldn’t be sustained without the support of other distributors,” adding Universal would back other initiatives to increase midweek box office.
