Forward Willie Burton of the Miami Heat has left the team to enter a medical facility where he will be treated for depression, said Lewis Schaffel, the club’s managing general partner.
Burton, a second-year player, was Miami’s first-round pick in the 1990 draft. He averaged 12 points as a rookie. However, tendinitis in his right knee had curtailed his playing time recently.
