Visitors to Moorpark College on Multicultural Day will be able to watch or participate in more than 40 activities, such as an American Indian dance performance and a talk on how various world cultures use physical gestures to communicate.

The annual event takes place Wednesday and is geared toward helping people understand different cultures by experiencing them, organizers said.

In addition to the American Indian dance, students and professionals will perform a Filipino stick dance and present a revue of Polynesian dances from Samoa, Hawaii, Tahiti and New Zealand.

A special children’s program will include chances to break pinatas and to draw murals with multicultural themes.

A group called the Gene Pool Children’s Repertory Theater will perform a theater reading and musical performance with a message against racial discrimination.

For adult theater-lovers, Moorpark College students and faculty will give dramatic readings from Shakespeare plays, and the Great Leap Asian-American Theater Performers from Los Angeles will perform a piece called “A Slice of Rice.”
