HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL /STATE CHAMPIONSHIP ROUNDUP : Boseman Leads Morningside to Title
Inglewood Morningside won its first state boys’ high school basketball championship, 79-72, over Monterey Seaside on Saturday in Division III at the Arco Arena in Sacramento.
Stais Boseman scored 11 of his game-high 24 points during the fourth quarter to lead the Monarchs back from a 60-58 third-quarter deficit.
Dominic Ellison added 15 points and Corey Saffold had 12 points and 11 rebounds for Morningside, which finished the season with a 25-6 record.
Seaside (29-4)--which was led by Tito Addison’s 21 points--had 24 turnovers. Morningside had only 10.
“We had the state championship title on our minds the whole game,” Morningside guard Sean Harris said. “We felt that it was our title to lose.”
With its girls’ team winning Division I titles in 1989 and 1990, Morningside is tied for the most State titles by a Southern Section school with three.
