If there’s one thing the Sea Hawks have is overwhelming participation and spirit. Zanelli said his roster will include about 18 players, which is roughly half the number of students enrolled at the private school in Laguna Hills. There are even three girls on the team--outfielders Charli Ruskin and Ruby Ramos, and second baseman Charity Chavez. “This is our fourth year with girls on the team,” Zanelli said. “It’s kind of an institution around here.” The Sea Hawks, which finished fourth in the five-team Metro League last year, have a tough road ahead with an inexperienced squad. “We will field a team consisting mostly of newcomers, some of whom have never played organized baseball,” said Zanelli, who is in his third season with the team. Ross, who batted .560 last season, is the team’s best hitter and No. 1 pitcher. “Chris is a fine baseball player. He was batting about .750 halfway through the season but he dropped off a little. I expect him to carry much of the load this year,” Zanelli said. Butler (.375) also provides good sock with the bat. And Lambrose probably will be the No. 2 pitcher. But after those three players, however, Pacific Shores is thin offensively. “Typically, we’ve had a grind-out-kind-of-offense, where we try to score anywhere we can,” Zanelli said.
