Emtman to Announce His Plans
Outland Trophy winner Steve Emtman has scheduled a news conference today to announce whether he is going to the NFL or staying for his senior season at the University of Washington.
Emtman, a defensive tackle who helped lead the Huskies to a 12-0 record and a national co-championship, is expected to announce his intention to submit his name for April’s NFL draft.
The 6-foot-5, 290-pound Emtman was the nation’s top lineman this past season. He was selected as the co-MVP in the Rose Bowl after a victory over Michigan on New Year’s Day.
He was one of four finalists for the Heisman Trophy.
The Seattle Post-Intelligencer reported Thursday that Emtman has chosen agent Leigh Steinberg to represent him. Steinberg could not be reached for comment.
Emtman must tell the NFL of his plans by today to be eligible for the draft.
The Indianapolis Colts have the first two picks in the NFL draft and are expected to go for Emtman if he is available.
