OUTLOOK
Sunny Hills returns five juniors, all of whom started at some point during last season, and this is the second full season the class of ’93 will be playing together at the varsity level. “This year, I don’t think the team will be afraid; they know what its like to be varsity players now,” McCollum said. Although all five starters should return next year, McCollum isn’t writing off this season. “Sure, next year we should be even better,” McCollum said. “And maybe we’re just counting the days ‘til Zrinka (Kristich, La Habra’s 6-foot-5 center) graduates. But we have to stay positive this season, and the most important thing is that we have to feel good about what we are doing now.” Sunny Hills lost leading scorer Shannan Brown to graduation, but co-captains Wilcox and McLean should help pick up the slack. Roque, Sunny Hills’ tallest player at 5-10 and top returning scorer (eight points per game), will have the unenviable task of trying to defend the 6-footers in the league. The Lancers plan to play pressure man-to-man defense to use their quickness to their advantage. On offense, the key could be outside shooting, and Sunny Hills will look to Kameoka and Kurosaki to hit three-pointers to open up the middle.
