West Covina : Firm Hired for Waste Plan
The city has hired a San Francisco consulting firm to come up with methods to help it meet state requirements on waste reduction.
The City Council on Monday voted unanimously to pay Brown, Vence & Associates up to $12,000 for an economic and feasibility study on developing commercial stations for recycling and waste transfer programs.
The consultants will also review the city’s agreement with West Covina Disposal to determine if the waste hauling contractor--which has already implemented a pilot curbside recycling program--can assist further in reductions.
The state Integrated Waste Management Act of 1989 requires cities and counties to divert 25% of their waste from landfills by Jan. 1, 1995, and 50% by Jan. 1, 2000.
