PARIS : Fashion on Parade
French fashion industry officials are expecting many of the buyers and journalists who sat out the last round during the uncertainty of the Gulf conflict to be back in force for this week’s opening of big spring and summer fashion shows.
If recent shows in Italy are any indication, the Paris fashion extravaganza will be a wild scene, again dominated by designers Karl Lagerfeld, Christian Lacroix, Claude Montana and Yves St. Laurent. The big complaint among designers: rising prices demanded by top models Claudia Schiffer, Naomi Campbell and Linda Evangelista, who are each paid $10,000 for an hourlong show in which they walk five or six times down the runway.
