Pio Cabanillas Gallas; Spaniard Was Member of European Parliament
Pio Cabanillas Gallas, 67, conservative member of the European Parliament and a former Cabinet minister in Spain. He helped write press law during the dictatorship of Gen. Francisco Franco. He also served as Franco’s minister of information and tourism. Assisting in the transition from dictatorship to democracy, he continued in various ministerial posts after Franco’s death in 1975. On Thursday in Madrid of a heart attack.
