Royal 50, Channel Islands 0--The Royal defense converted two interceptions and a fumble recovery into first-half touchdowns as the Highlanders (5-0, 2-0) rolled up a 36-0 halftime lead at Moorpark College.
After cornerback Rommel Butler intercepted a pass on the third play of the game and returned it 54 for a touchdown, linebacker Adam Kline matched Butler’s feat three plays before the end of the first period for a 36-yard score and a 16-0 lead.
With Royal leading, 23-0, in the second quarter, lineman Richard Wilson recovered a bad punt snap in the end zone for the third defensive tally.
Royal’s Ryan Fien completed 14 of 21 passes for 212 yards and three touchdowns, including a 56-yard score to running back Mike Streeter.
