In other earnings news:
* Advanced Micro Devices Inc. reported a profit of $17.1 million in the third quarter, contrasted with a loss of $17.8 million in the same period last year.
Analysts and the company said the report reflected a turnaround at the computer chip maker. They said the rebound was based largely on a microprocessor that can replace a key Intel Corp. chip in personal computers.
AMD’s profit for the quarter ended Sept. 30 amounted to 16 cents a share, compared to a loss of $17.8 million, or 25 cents a share, a year earlier.
Revenue totaled $289.4 million, up from $254.2 million a year earlier.
