Stanford’s Woes
Kudos and a laurel wreath for David Pierpont Gardner (Commentary, July 30) for his magnanimous defense of Stanford University, recently plagued by destructive criticism! He reminds us that “Stanford has made, and continues to make, extraordinary contributions to our society through world-class research.”
Quite rightly President Gardner of the University of California pleads that “as a national resource, our universities deserve national discourse” and not slander. Let’s leave “invective and name-calling” to presidential politics (loathsome as that is)!
