Carl Lewis faltered while running his first 200 meters in two years and Noureddine Morceli of Algeria missed a predicted 1,500-meter world record in the DN Galan ’91 Grand Prix meet at Stockholm, Sweden.

Frankie Fredericks of Namibia surprised Lewis in the 200, clocking 20.41 seconds. Lewis led until the last 20 meters.

Morceli, who predicted a 3:28 in the 1,500, won in 3 minutes 31.01 seconds. The record is 3:29.46.

Merlene Ottey of Jamaica increased her winning streak to 49 races in the 100 meters, winning in 10.98, and Italian Salvatore Antibo won the 5,000 in 13:13.66, the fastest time of the year.

Americans Greg Foster and Leroy Burrell overcame shaky starts and won. Foster won the 110-meter hurdles in 13.24 seconds, and Burrell, who broke Lewis’ world record in the 100-meters with a 9.90 clocking three weeks ago, won in a modest 10.21, the slowest winning times in his six victories this season.
