HOT SHOT: With remix records the rage these days, record companies are always looking for new ways to make the album appear special (since remix projects are geared toward persuading fans to buy new versions of previously released songs). Give MCA Records credit--the label has pulled off a coup for its upcoming Bell Biv DeVoe remix album, due in early September and produced by the BBD production team of Wolf & Epic. To spice up the vocal tracks on a new version of BBD’s “Word to the Mutha,” MCA exec Louil Silas Jr. helped orchestrate a reunion of BBD with its old New Edition cronies--namely Bobby Brown, Ralph Tresvant and Johnny Gill, who’d replaced Brown in the band. The New Edition alumni also all showed up in Boston last week to shoot a video of the song, which will be released in August.
