SDSU’s Vaughn Makes Semifinals
Darla Vaughn of San Diego State finished sixth in her 100 hurdles heat at the NCAA track and field championships in Eugene, Ore., with a wind-aided time of 13.46. That was good enough to qualify for today’s semifinals.
The top four in each of the three heats advanced, plus the next four fastest. Dawn Bowles of Louisiana State, who ran in the first heat, had the fastest qualifying time, a wind-aided 12.85.
BASEBALL
Two San Diego State players have been named to the All-Region 9 team. Derek Vinyard, a sophomore shortstop from Salem, Ore., led the Aztecs with a .383 average and 34 stolen bases. He was named to the first team and is therefore eligible for consideration for the All-American team.
Scott Dennison, a senior second baseman who played high school ball at Valhalla, led the Aztecs with 43 RBIs. He was named to the second team.
