HIGH SCHOOL ROUNDUP : Hart Stopped in Title Game, 4-2, Despite Fireworks by Medearis
Despite a triple and a double by Heather Medearis, Hart High fell to St. Paul, 4-2, in the championship game of the Thousand Oaks softball tournament at Thousand Oaks High.
In two games Saturday, Medearis was four for six with two doubles and a triple and was named the tournament’s outstanding offensive player. She tripled in a run in the seventh inning to bring Hart (15-3) within 4-1 and later scored to cut the deficit to two, but the Indians’ rally faltered.
In the first game, Hart defeated Camarillo, 8-2, by scoring eight runs in the sixth. Jamie Dean had two hits in the inning to key the Hart rally.
In other tournament games:
Agoura 8, Westlake 1--Melissa Thatcher (12-9) was three for four with a home run, five runs batted in and pitched a two-hitter to lead Agoura (13-9) to the consolation championship.
La Reina 2, Paraclete 0 (10 innings)--Michelle St. Pierre (10-2) struck out six, walked none, allowed six hits and went the distance to lead Le Reina (12-5) in the championship game of the Coastal Classic at Carpinteria.
BASEBALL
Providence 7, Oakwood 6 (eight innings)--Hugo Castillo struck out 13 and scored the winning run on a throwing error in the Liberty League game at Oakwood. Castillo (2-1) was three for five and retired the final 11 batters for Providence (11-4, 7-1 in league play).
