World IN BRIEF : SOUTH AMERICA : Cholera Spreading to Brazil, Panama

A three-month cholera epidemic that has killed at least 1,000 people in Peru, Ecuador and Colombia is spreading into Brazil, Uruguay and Panama, officials said. Since it first surfaced in Peru in mid-February, the highly contagious disease has moved swiftly into Ecuador and Colombia, infecting thousands. In Peru alone, 963 have died.
