OXNARD : Boy, 14, Wounded in Drive-By Shooting
A 14-year-old boy was in serious condition Wednesday after he was shot in the stomach during a drive-by shooting in Oxnard, police said.
Fernando Sanchez was in the intensive-care unit of St. John’s Regional Medical Center, a hospital spokeswoman said.
Sanchez told police he was walking with two friends in the 2100 block of East Channel Islands Boulevard about 7 p.m. Tuesday when a Chevrolet Monte Carlo drove by and three people in it shouted at him, police said. The occupants then started shooting, Oxnard police said.
As Sanchez and his friends began running, Sanchez realized that he had been shot, police said. He was taken to the hospital, where police briefly interviewed him.
Police Detective Rafael Nieves said that Sanchez apparently does not belong to a gang but said there are some indications the shooting was gang-related.
