Promoter Don King, appearing on a cable television show in which Monday’s Mike Tyson-Razor Ruddock fight was replayed, said he will try to get Renaldo Snipes to step aside so that Tyson and Ruddock can meet in a rematch.

Snipes had been scheduled to fight Tyson June 8 at the Mirage in Las Vegas.

“Mr. Snipes will be taken care of,” King said, implying that Snipes will be paid to step aside. King said the possible dates for the Ruddock-Tyson fight would be June 22, 28 or 29.

Referee Richard Steele, who stopped last Monday’s scheduled 12-round fight in the seventh round even though Ruddock appeared able to continue, canceled a scheduled appearance on the program on Showtime.

Ruddock, who appeared on the show along with Tyson, said he thought Steele was looking for a reason to stop the fight. “I didn’t know whether it was premeditated, but after looking at it again I think it could have been premeditated,” Ruddock said.
