La Canada Council OKs Hillside Building Rules
The La Canada Flintridge City Council this week unanimously approved strict new rules on hillside development, which require new or remodeled residences to be designed to blend in with the size and character of housing in the neighborhood.
Adopted after more than a year of study, the regulations are designed to preserve the wooded, natural terrain in the hills by limiting the amount of grading permitted and preserving prominent land forms, such as ridges, knolls, valleys and creeks.
Council members on Monday gave final approval to the rules without further comment. The ordinance will go into effect in 30 days, ending a 14-month moratorium on new hillside construction.
