Bomb Discovered at Islamic Center
SAN DIEGO — A custodian seeking the cause of a power failure found a homemade, low-yield incendiary device plugged into the wall of a bathroom at an Islamic Center here Friday, the FBI said.
FBI Agent Ron Orrantia said the device, which he declined to describe in detail, was removed without difficulty and will be examined by a bureau laboratory.
Ezedin Ismail a spokesman for the Islamic Center of San Diego said the mosque had received no threats, but he expressed concern that the incident might be tied to rising tensions over the Persian Gulf crisis.
“We are for peace and do not propagate war,” he said. “We’re not even in favor of the regime (in Iraq). . . . That shows that we’re not for war.”
