LOS ALAMITOS : New Year’s Eve Program Offers 10-Race Lineup
A special New Year’s Eve racing program will take place tonight at Los Alamitos. The 10-race program will begin at 7:25 p.m. and will feature a field of eight including recent stakes winner Hez Class in a 350-yard allowance test for 3-year-olds as the ninth race.
Tonight’s program opens six straight nights of racing at Los Alamitos.
Three of the entrants in the feature race--Hez Class, Middock and Newmont--have won stakes races during their sophomore year. Hez Class scored an upset win in the first division of the Garden Grove Handicap at Los Alamitos on Oct. 27. Bruce Pilkenton will ride Hez Class.
Middock had a fine summer campaign when he won three of six starts, including the Grade III Breeders Derby, but he finished fourth and fifth in two starts this fall.
Newmont has only one win in 1990, but the Tom Bazley-trained gelding picked the perfect time to turn in his best effort, winning the Grade I Los Alamitos Derby during the summer season.
