Actress Sues Orion Over ‘Mermaids’ Part: Actress Emily Lloyd has sued Orion Pictures for more than $5 million, contending that she was supposed to get the role of Charlotte Flax in the film “Mermaids.” The role went to Winona Ryder. The Los Angeles Superior Court suit said Orion agreed in January, 1989, to cast Lloyd, 20, as Cher’s daughter, and pay her $435,000 plus a percentage of profits from the film. The suit alleges that Orion breached the agreement by casting Ryder in the role. (Case No. BC0017866. Filed Dec. 26, 1990.)
