In the Garden Grove tournament:

Western 69, Magnolia 38--Western (4-0) powered its way to the championship at Garden Grove High School.

Magnolia (3-1), which upset Laguna Hills Thursday, was unable to handle the Pioneers’ full-court pressure and height advantage and fell behind, 14-5, in the first quarter. After a brief rally that closed the gap to 18-15 early in the second quarter, Magnolia was never close again.

In the third-place game, Laguna Hills nipped Buena Park, 73-71, as Brian Matsen scored 36 points including the winning basket at the buzzer. Garden Grove defeated Bolsa Grande, 66-54, in the consolation finals.

Thomas Barraza led Western with 24 points and six assists.
