Las Vegas Starts Out Where It Left Off: No. 1
Nevada Las Vegas will start the preseason where it finished last season: No. 1 in the college basketball poll.
“I expected us to be rated high because we have four starters back from last year’s team,” UNLV Coach Jerry Tarkanian said of his team that won the NCAA title with a 103-73 rout of Duke.
A panel of 65 sportswriters and broadcasters picked UNLV No. 1, followed by Arkansas, Arizona, Michigan State and North Carolina, Duke, Alabama, Indiana, Georgetown and Ohio State.
Fifty of the 65 voters made UNLV No. 1. Arkansas and Arizona each received five first-place votes.
