Jack Smith’s Sept. 23 column, “A Gallery of Memories,” on his inability to part with old photographs, really struck home with me.

In our 17 years of marriage, we’ve moved three times. Each time I think, this will be when I throw photographs away. What usually happens is, when we should be packing the china, we’re looking through photographs.

I have an idea. Jack, I’ll come over to your house and help you toss those photos out--if you come over to mine.

On second thought, maybe I’ll just help you. I’m not quite ready yet--maybe next time I move.
