Andino Will Try to Clinch Overall Surf Title
Dino Andino of San Clemente will try to clinch the Professional Surfing Assn. of America overall title this week at the $75,000 Budweiser Surfing Championships at Ocean Beach in San Francisco.
The six-day event, which begins today, is the final stop on the tour. It will feature 250 of the nation’s top surfers.
Andino, 21, has a comfortable 428-point lead over Charlie Kuhn of Indian Harbor, Fla., in the standings. Andino has finished second in the tour’s point standings to Mike Lambresi of Oceanside the past two years.
Other Orange County surfers expected to compete include Pat O’Connell of Laguna Niguel, Shane Beschen of San Clemente, Vince de la Pena of Laguna Niguel and Bud Llamas of Huntington Beach.
The winner will take home $7,000.
