COLLEGE FOOTBALL REPORT : WEEKDAY UPDATE : UCLA : Statistics Claim Bruins Overmatched
If statistics are meaningful, UCLA is overmatched in its Pacific 10 game against Oregon Saturday at Eugene, Ore.
The Ducks are ranked second in total offense in the conference, averaging 415.8 yards. UCLA is fifth, with 382 yards.
The Ducks are third in total defense, giving up an average of 336.3 yards. The Bruins are fifth, yielding 372.8 yards.
The most significant disparity is in scoring defense. Oregon is second in the Pac-10, giving up an average of 16.8 points a game. UCLA is seventh (29.6).
However, UCLA has played a tougher nonconference schedule--against Oklahoma, Michigan and San Diego State. The Ducks have played San Diego State, Idaho, Brigham Young and Utah State.
