Love Me Tonight (AMC Sunday at 2:30 p.m., again at 11 p.m.) Rouben Mamoulian’s exquisite 1932 classic musical, justly famous for its innovative opening sequence culminating in Rodgers and Hart’s “Isn’t It Romantic?,” stars Maurice Chevalier and Jeanette MacDonald.

Starman (Show Sunday at 4 p.m and Monday at 3 a.m.; TMC Friday at 5:30 p.m.) This 1984 release came as a charming surprise from horrormeister John Carpenter. It’s a gentle, irresistible and deeply poignant romantic fable about a woman (Karen Allen) on the lam with an endangered alien (Jeff Bridges).

The Big Parade (TNT Monday at 5 p.m.) King Vidor’s 1925 silent World War I classic is a film of epic sweep and famous moments, a gallant salute to an end of innocence and the first fully realized expression of what that war meant to America. John Gilbert stars.

Pickup on South Street (Disney Tuesday at 9 p.m.) Samuel Fuller’s 1953 film noir captured the anti-Communist hysteria of the era as pickpocket Richard Widmark inadvertently steals top secret microfilm. What makes the film unforgettable, however, is Thelma Ritter’s Oscar-nominated performance as an ill-fated street peddler.

The Girl From Hunan (Bravo Thursday at 6 p.m., again at 11 p.m.) This outstanding 1987 Chinese film, based on a 1929 novel, is highly critical of a feudal society in which an 18-year-old woman (Xue Bai) in a remote village is married off to a child husband--with drastic consequences.
