BANKING: Despite concern that some major money-center banks could fail and wipe out the federal insurance fund if a major recession hits the nation (A1), Orange County’s 38 small community banks are so far doing better than expected, says industry consultant Gerry Findley of Brea. . . . The locals chalked up a combined $11.6-million profit for the first quarter, and soon-to-be-released second-quarter figures should show better results, he says.
