Australian Andrew Gaze, who was a standout at Seton Hall, was hospitalized today with a blood clot in his right shoulder that will likely keep him from a tryout with the Portland Trail Blazers.

Gaze, 25, who has led the Australian National Basketball League in scoring the last five years, was to try out for the NBA team this fall.

The Philadelphia 76ers and Minnesota Timberwolves also were said to be interested in him.

Gaze’s club, the Melbourne Tigers, said the illness will keep him out for the rest of the Australian season, which runs through October.

Gaze, who helped Seton Hall to the NCAA championship game two years ago, has averaged 37.6 points per game in the NBL this season.
