Pineapple Era Ending in Lanai: Castle & Cooke Inc. said it will phase out commercial production of pineapple on the island of Lanai because it no longer pays to grow, handle, and ship pineapple in Hawaii. Castle & Cooke, based in Los Angeles, owns 98% of Lanai and is the parent of Dole Foods Inc. The phase-out should be complete by 1993. Castle & Cooke stock jumped $2.625 to close at $35.625 on the New York Stock Exchange.
