Huntington Receives Trauma Care Funds

Huntington Memorial Hospital in Pasadena, which had threatened to pull out of the county’s beleaguered trauma-care network, received $200,000 Tuesday from the Board of Supervisors to treat poor patients. The allocation was unanimously approved without comment.

“Huntington Hospital is an integral part of our county’s trauma network, and responsible fiscal support of its trauma services is necessary to provide services to the residents of the foothill communities and San Gabriel Valley,” Supervisor Mike Antonovich said in a prepared statement.

The hospital announced in late February that it would withdraw from the network May 1 because of $3.7 million in losses incurred in 1989, mostly from treating uninsured patients.

But the hospital’s board of directors reversed its decision to withdraw from the trauma network after the county agreed to significantly increase its funding.
