Theater Troupe Gets $3,000 Grant for Workshops, Writing Contest
LONG BEACH — The Bard in the Yard Theater Company was awarded a $3,000 grant from the National/State/County Partnership, a program administered through Los Angeles County and designed to help nonprofit arts organizations.
The grant, which must be matched on a one-to-one basis with other grants and contributions, will allow the Bard in the Yard to conduct a series of play-writing workshops and a writing competition.
The workshops will begin in late fall and the competition will be held in January, 1991. The winning play or plays will be produced by the Bard during its 1991 season, and the writers will be awarded cash prizes.
The Bard in the Yard is a Long Beach-based theater company dedicated to presenting quality theater in environmental settings free of charge to the public.
Its next production, Shakespeare’s “The Comedy of Errors,” will be presented at 5 p.m. Aug. 25 and 26 and Sept. 1 and 2 at the band shell in Recreation Park, Park Avenue and 7th Street, Long Beach. For more information call 434-8939.
