Pro Surfing Tour to Stop in Malibu
The nation’s top surfers are competing this week in the Croakies Malibu Surf Classic.
A field of 192 is entered in the competition at Surfrider Beach in Malibu. It is the eighth stop on the 1990 Bud Pro Surfing Tour. Qualifying rounds began Wednesday and the competition ends Sunday.
Three-time defending U.S. Surfing Champion Mike Lambresi of Oceanside, current tour leader Dino Andino and Venice’s Allen Sarlo, winner of the Excalibur Cup tournament in Malibu last month, will be among the field competing for a purse of $40,000, with $7,000 awarded for first place.
There will also be a field of 48 competing for a $10,000 purse in the Body Glove Bodyboard Division.
The heats begin at 7 a.m. each day and quarterfinals begin at 8 a.m. Sunday.
