Legion All-Star Game to Feature 3 West Players

Third baseman Del Marine, second baseman Paul Geller and catcher Bobby Kim of American Legion state champion Woodland Hills West lead a group of 12 District 20 players on the North team in the inaugural North-South All-Star Game at 1 p.m. today at UCLA’s Jackie Robinson Stadium.

The trio join pitchers Chris Brown of Woodland Hills East, Shane Cowsill of Glendale, Roland De La Maza of Panorama City and Tim Salado of Quartz Hill and infielders David Cooke of Lancaster, Brian Lovelace of Quartz Hill, Kevin Milligan of Van Nuys-Notre Dame and Oscar Silva of Newhall-Saugus. Chris Prince of Van Nuys-Notre Dame is the lone District 20 outfielder on the North team.

Representing District 16 on the North roster are outfielders Steve Philbrook of Ventura and Rob Neal of Westlake, infielder Tyler Nelson of Simi Valley and pitcher Mike Lee of Conejo Valley.

Woodland Hills West’s Don Hornback will coach the team and will be assisted by Scott Smith of Panorama City, Tom Pedersen of Newhall-Saugus and Jody Breeden of Van Nuys-Notre Dame.

The South roster includes players from Rancho Cucamonga, Fullerton, Ontario, Chino and La Habra. Butch Smith of the Fullerton Angels--the state titlist in 1989--will coach the South.
