FundAmerica Charges Filed: Florida authorities filed criminal fraud charges against Robert T. Edwards, former president of Irvine-based FundAmerica Inc., and the company for allegedly running a pyramid scam in that state. The charges of organized fraud, securities fraud and running an illegal lottery were made in an information, the equivalent of an indictment in most jurisdictions, filed in Florida’s Ninth Circuit Court in Orlando. Edwards, who was arrested three weeks ago, could face a total of 65 years in prison and fines of $35,000 if convicted.
