American Express to Open Bank Branch in Poland: The Polish government has authorized the American Express Bank Ltd. to open a Warsaw branch in the first such approval for a major Western financial institution, Senior Finance Ministry official Jaroslaw Biernacki said. “It is the first important Western bank to come to Poland,” he said, although it was the second U.S. bank to gain approval. The first was the American Bank in Poland Ltd., formed by Polish-American executives.
