SHORT TAKES : Madonna’s Guard Apologizes
BARCELONA, Spain — Madonna’s chief bodyguard apologized for roughing up a newspaper photographer who tried to snap the pop star jogging along a busy street.
Security guard Marcus Johnson went to El Periodico de Cataluna’s newsroom Wednesday to apologize to the photographer, Juan Valganon, the newspaper reported today. Valganon was bruised in Tuesday’s altercation.
Madonna’s “Blond Ambition” tour included three concerts in Spain.
Meanwhile today in Italy, the Vatican newspaper criticized the country’s state-run television network for broadcasting Madonna’s Barcelona concert.
In a commentary, L’Osservatore Romano said the live broadcast of Wednesday night’s concert violated “good sense, good taste and decency.”
More than 50,000 people attended the show.
