Glenn B. Halsted; Retired Machinist
Glenn B. Halsted, a retired machinist who lived in Pacoima more than 30 years, has died. He was 66.
Halsted died of natural causes July 23, 2 1/2 years after he suffered a stroke that left him bedridden and paralyzed on his left side, said Edith Smith, a friend of Halsted’s.
Halsted was born July 17, 1924, in Richland, Wis. He served in Europe from 1943 to 1946, winning three Bronze Stars in World War II.
After the war he moved to Los Angeles, where he began work as an aeronautics machinist and soon moved to a job as a machinist for General Electric. He met and married Alice Mae Gross in the 1950s, Smith said.
Halsted stopped working in the late 1970s, when he was seriously injured in an accident on the job. He suffered a stroke in February, 1987, and his wife died six months later, Smith said. Halsted was hospitalized with pneumonia in June, Smith said, and never fully recovered.
Halsted had no children and no surviving family members, Smith said. Noble Chapel Funeral Directors in San Fernando was handling the arrangements.
