JERUSALEM — President Chaim Herzog of Israel underwent knee surgery today after tearing a tendon in a fall in his garden, a spokeswoman for the president said.
The operation involved stitching the tendon, said spokeswoman Penina Kirshenbaum.

Herzog, 72, has served for seven years as president, a position that is largely ceremonial.
